I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of

His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Grindle's letter of the 12th ultimo (20254/16 and its accompanying copy of a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong enquiring what action should be taken as regards certain assets of the local branch of the Deutscht Asiatische Bank.

In reply I am to request you to inform Mr. Secretary Bonar Law that Their Lordships understand that the net amount due to the London Branch of the Disconto Gesellschaft from the Deutsche Asiatische Bank is £46,119.159.8d.

The amount due by the Hong Kong Branch of the Deutsche Asiatische Bank is £19,571.16s.8d. and Their Lordships think it would be desirable that this sun should be remitted to the London Branch of the Disconto- Gesellschaft by the Liquidators of the Hong Kong Branch in part discharge of the total indebtedness of the Deutsche- Asiatische Bank to the Disconto-Gesellschaft. The amount due by the Disconto-Gesellschaft to the Bank of England exceeds £1,400,000.
